The Downtube Mini is designed for minimum folded size, but with minimum compromise. It folds almost as small as a Brompton, yet with its 8 speed hub, it has all the gear range you need even for long rides. Riders up to 6’2 (inside leg measurement depending) can be accommodated by its long seatpost and adjustable height stem, and you’ll find minimal compromise on the road. Many riders find smaller wheeled bikes accelerate faster, and are more agile in city traffic, and the Mini is certainly nippy. The 8 speeds give you close spacing, so you can find just the ratio you want, whilst still giving you something low enough for the uphills, and high enough to really scream on the downhills.
Despite its small size, the Mini is a capable luggage carrier too; with the addition of a seatpost rack, it will carry panniers and rack top bags with ease, so biking to work doesn’t mean leaving your things at home. Mudguards are easily fitted, and since the Mini’s low maintenance hub gears are already resistant to the elements, you can ride your little wonder all year round.
The Downtube Mini is small enough for true multi-mode commuting; folded, it’s practical on buses, the tube, train luggage racks, and in the back of your car. It opens up the possibility of combining public transport and cycling to those who so far have not been able to afford it.
Unlike the IXFS, the Mini is not warehoused in the UK, but in the US, and ships direct from there. You should be aware that you may be charged VAT on top of the price when your Mini arrives.
